About the exhibition

Nadia Léger. Une femme d’avant-garde

Nadia Khodossievitch-Léger (1904-1982) was a leading figure in twentieth-century art. The retrospective Nadia Léger. A Woman of the Avant-Garde retraces the largely unknown career of this exceptional woman, who was a prolific painter, magazine editor, collaborator with her husband Fernand Léger, member of the French Resistance, museum builder and fervent Communist activist.

The exhibition follows her journey from her native Russian village to Paris, the influences she came under and the artistic communities she came into contact with. Through previously unseen dialogues with works by Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, and students from the Atelier Léger (Nicolas de Staël, Hans Hartung, Marcelle Cahn…), the exhibition explores the world of this adept of collective adventures.
