An exhibition that brings together more than 70 of Reambrant’s prints, almost a third of his total production. There are approximately three hundred prints that the artist created throughout his career and his career as an engraver was conducted in parallel with that of a painter, above all it had an autonomous character: in fact, Rembrandt hardly used the medium of printing to reproduce the paintings. Rembrandt was one of the first artists to abandon the concept of printing as a means of reproduction.
Rembrandt began etching early in his career while he was still in Leiden. His own face is a common feature in his earliest prints, which were probably meant as studies of varied expressions rather than self-portraits. He also often portrayed family and people he knew around him (The Artist’s Mother)
A fascinating exhibition to look at up close, suitable for all museum spaces. A unique show, an incredible quantity of prints by the great master, a unique opportunity to see them all together.
It is possible to have other works on loan from private collectors in order to reach 100 prints.
